Our New E-Newsletter

Our new E-Newsletter was sent out by e-mail on the 12th of August.  If you didn't receive it please look in your spam box.  Unfortunately, that is the "final resting place" for many unexpected e-mails.  If you didn't find it there and would like to receive it, please send a note to qam1882@gmail.com and we will add you to our mailing list.

Following is a copy of that first E-News.

AUGUST 2011 E-NEWS
Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel Oregon

Going Green

A Newsletter
Environmentalists Can Love
Welcome to the Benedictine Sisters' E-News!  This is the first issue of their electronically delivered "going green" newsletter.  As most of you know, the Sisters have had a printed [and USPS delivered] newsletter, Reflections, for more than 35 years.  Now they are branching out and will be "publishing" this e-newsletter.  Reflections is published three times a year [Winter, spring, and Fall] and this E-News will come out about once a month.
The E-News serves several purposes:  it offers more timely news since it will come out more frequently; it saves printing and postage costs, and by using fewer natural resources it supports the Benedictine value of reverence for creation.
News of the Sisters and their ministries can also be found other places on-line.  You can see them on Facebook [Queen of Angels Monastery] as well as on their two blogs.  The first blog focuses on the Sisters and their spirituality.  The second highlights Shalom Prayer Center, St. Joseph Shelter, Mission Benedict, Monastery Mustard, and the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon.  Please note the links to the left and below.
The Sisters hope that you enjoy this E-News and invite you to forward it to family and friends.

Mario Diaz Performs for Packed House

Mario Diaz in concert
Those attending the concert featuring guitarist extraordinaire Mario Diaz at Queen of Angels Chapel on Friday, July 22 were not disappointed. Mario kept the sold-out crowd enthralled with a virtuoso display that encompassed many styles and genres.
Sponsored by the Shalom Prayer Center board of directors, the concert was a benefit for the proposed outdoor labyrinth at Shalom Prayer Center. The concert proceeds of more than $2,100 and subsequent donations have pushed the total raised to within $1,000 of what is needed for the outdoor labyrinth!

Calling All Golfers!

St. Joseph Shelter's Third Annual Golf Marathon is less than two months away. The event, in which participants will secure sponsors and attempt to play 100 holes, will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Charbonneau Golf Club in Wilsonville.
Anyone who enjoys golf and might be interested in this fun way to support the Shelter's ministry to the homeless is invited to the TEE OFF DINNER on Thursday, August 18 at 5:30 pm at Evergreen Golf Club in Mt. Angel. Pizza will be served during a short program about how the Golf Marathon works. Afterwards, you are invited to play 9 holes at Evergreen free of charge! The Shelter is offering the free golf as a thank you for your time and interest in participating in the Golf Marathon. Learn more at www.stjosephshelter.org
 Thank You for Your Support!

The 2011 Sisters' Retirement Appeal has been a tremendous success, thanks to the generosity of so many caring friends of the Sisters. To date, nearly 300 people have donated and nearly $45,000 has been raised. This amount represents an increase of over 10% over the previous year, and each gift is deeply appreciated by the community.
It is not too late to contribute - you can donate online at www.benedictine-srs.org or mail a check to the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon, P.O. Box 912, Mt. Angel, OR, 97362. Retirement appeal funds help provide for the care and living needs of the senior Sisters at Queen of Angels Monastery. The 15 Sisters here who are 80 and older have served as religious for a combined total of 927 years, an average of over 61 years each!
It's Berry Time at the Monastery

The Sisters are blessed each summer by an Novice Mary picking raspberriesabundant crop of berries - blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - from their Monastery garden. While the berries were a little later than usual this year, the crop was a good one and the berries were enjoyed by all!
